The Sound of DiscDog | Cuing a Vault
Ron & Epic warmup for some detailed vault work and demonstrate proper vault cuing in this Sound of DiscDog session on Clubhouse. The Sound of DiscDog is a series we run in the Pawsitive Vybe Club on Clubhouse, an audio only social network, that is designed to stimulate our listeners imaginations and draw attention to some of the missing elements of disc dog and dog training through visual consumption. Listening to training and jams can provide a completely different understanding. GiveThe Give is a retrieve to the hand. A cued Give is a foundational skill that is not super useful in the actual performance of disc dog freestyle, and has huge applications for... More it a shot, listen to the audio below before watching the video.
Tell
Tell the dog which vault we’re going to do verbally and show them where it’s going to go.
Trigger
The presentation of the vaulting obstacle is the trigger for the skill. This trigger allows for total control over the start of the behavior by the handler. Do not let your toss be your trigger. The dog will game and jump it by flying into action as you do a “backswing” for your throw. Let your body or your foot movement be the trigger.
Target
The dog breaks on the trigger with the idea that the disc will be caught where you tell them it will. Just quickly and efficiently deliver the target to that place you told ’em it was going to be.
The dog leaves the ground for the target.
