Dog eats Rockford man’s big toe, saves his life

We stopped at a friend’s house after Canine Interaction Class last night and were treated to this story.
Apparently Big Jerry is something of a Rockford icon.

Last weekend, after Jerry came home and passed out drunk on too many margaritas, Kiko chewed off most his right big toe. “He saved my life,” Jerry said. “I would have never gone to the doctor unless this would have happened.” Because he sought medical attention for the wound, doctors learned his blood sugar was high and diagnosed him with diabetes.
