Patrons Only – Training Jam…
0:00 – 0:10 – Rebound to Front Side Back Stall
This is a new, super-secret sequence that will only be seen by PVybe Patrons until after we get a chance to defend our Freestyle title at UPDIF 2020.
Not much to say about it except that I’m super excited about it and that I think it is super friggin’ cool. I’m planning a flip dismount from the Back StallA Stall happens when your dog leaps up and stays on a part of your body. Stalls are usually named by the part of your body they happen on. If your dog leaps..., and we tried it once on camera here, but I have no idea how to throw it. I’ll try to figure something out sometime, as it’s been a holy grail kind of trick for me for some time. Not sure if this wlll happen in time for UPDIF or not, but it’s on the agenda and if something comes to me, I’ll give it a shot.
0:10 – 0:24 – Make It Rain Multiple
Riffing off the Make It Rain move from pop culture, this multiple is super fun. If you notice that the catch on each toss is nice and clean and discrete — it’s obviously a catch, which is not always the case with a multiple…
The key to a good multiple that displays clean and controlled catches by the dog is to cue and mark the Drop instead of marking the catch. When you mark the catch the dog takes their teeth off immediately for their cookie.
Focusing on the cued Drop (or give for a juggle) means the dog has to catch and hold until the drop cue is given in order to earn their cookie. It is a little slow at first, but it can be sped up to a super fast speed in no time once the dog has the concept.
0:24 – 1:33 – Snazzy – A Dynamic Hybrid Set Up Move
Sometimes moves that get put together become something completely different. ThroughA Through is a set up move where the dog runs between the handler’s legs. The dog can move from front to back or side to side and can even weave. A Through... n Twist comes to mind, and Fancy (Through to Backwards Through
If your dog moves through your legs from back to front, that is a backwards Through. The Backwards Through usually sets up in one of two ways depending on where your dog’s starting...) is on display in this video. Both of these set up moves become something uniquely different than their component parts.
Snazzy, FakieAn athletic Set Up Move, the Fakie is a flip off of the handler's body (normally the chest) with no disc in flight or intended to be caught. It is usually named by... to Through, has been something I’ve been doing for a while, just became a hybrid sequence a few weeks ago (It was Apryl’s idea…).
So once I realize the sequence has become it’s own, hybrid move, I give it a name. Either This n That, where the “n” just gets put in the middle, or it gets a new name like “Snazzy”. The name is given before we physically cue. I also added the Spin and Twist, clock and counter, to the name so the dog knows which direction we’re gonna go before anything happens.
1:33 – 2:50 – Slowing the Epic Roll Into the Stall
It’s as simple as not throwing. If the dog goes, don’t throw. It’s a rule. Remember it.
The key to the stall on the run is to work from FlankOut to the side of the handler is the Flank. If the dog is out to the handler's right or left the dog is on Flank. If the dog is moving with the... to Flank. Notice that I’m picking him up early on the one flank and front crossing to the other as the start of the trick. This Front Cross
On a Front Cross, your dog switches Flanks in with you in front of them. From Clock to Counter Clockwise Flank or vice versa. Taken directly from the canine agility world, the Front... is the trigger for the Stall
A Stall has the dog leaping up and chilling out on the handler’s back. Stalls are great for showmanship and for presenting a dog to the crowd. They create a dramatic or emotive....
You might also notice that this is not much of a flank. He’s really approaching rather linearly. This is not a good approach for working on the run. It is too easy for the dog to approach too hard and too aggressively. So this is partly my bad, but Eppie is a bad ass and he should be able to do it.
3:05 – 3:15 – Heli-In to Heli-Out
A Heli is a flip on the flank that starts and finishes on the working flank.
Heli-In has the dog finishing the flank with the flip, so it’s a clockwise Flip while on a Clockwise Flank. This creates a real soft, arcing flip.
Heli-Out has the dog flipping in the opposite direction of the flank, Epic flips out while on the flank. This is a Counter Clockwise Flip while on a Clockwise Flank. The Heli-Out yields a bigger, sharper flip.
These In and Out concepts are in play in all flips, even if the Heli part is not really happening. Feel free to ask me about that somewhere.
3:15 -3:43 – ScootA Scoot is a Set Up Move where the dog scoots backwards between the handler’s legs. It’s a really clever Set Up Move, the image of your dog spinning around and shimmying backwards... to Flip to Body Roll Flip
This is kind of broken right now. It should be a Scoot n Flip to Body Roll Flip… See what I did there?
Notice the Heli-Out cue given to help Eppie flip in the appropriate direction. Too bad his handler can’t throw it properly.
3:43 – Fin – Reverse Leg Vault to Dog Catch
Trying to get a clean vault. If it’s clean Epic is likely to try to land the Dog CatchA Dog Catch is a great trick to use for hitting the crowd or for putting a strategic pause in your routine. The dog leaps to catch the disc and then you catch... like an Arm Stall.
I am hoping to turn this move into a Rebound to Back Stall… another Holy Grail trick.
Hope you digged this… hit me up somewhere if you want to chat about it. Preferably where other Patrons can see it.
Peace~
