The Disc Dog Gainer Flip

Traditional back flips move backwards a bit. The back flip starts in one spotSpot is a “go to a place”, or “go to a mat” behavior. This means that the dog seeks out and performs a duration behavior on a spot of the handler’s choosing. A... More on the ground and the landing happens some distance, short or long, behind the take off spot.

A gainer flip is a back flip that moves forward. So the landing spot is some distance, short or long, in front of the spot where take off happened.

This move is not for all dogs.

Dogs that are not very aggressive or have weak rear ends can wind up in serious trouble with Gainer Flips.

How Do I know If It’s Safe for My Dog?

Essentially if the dog isn’t doing it on their own, we probably shouldn’t be doing it.

Gainering

Sometimes it’s important for us to be able to describe what’s happening with a particular skill. “Gainering” is a verb used to describe a flip that travels forward.
